Try and read the beginning of the Chicago Reader B-Side cover story without screaming internally (or externally). I know I couldn’t!

“On January 3rd, a 17-year old Chicago producer calling himself Metallic Ghosts played a concert from his bedroom in Old Town. Also on the bill for this online show were Veracom, a producer from Dallas; […] Coolmemoryz, a Floridian who pretends to be from Japan […]”

The article goes on to say that they had their first official Vaporwave inline festival (hosted on Tinychat), which “doubled as a ‘final eulogy’ for the genre. ‘As soon as you name something,’ [Metallic Ghosts] says, ‘it’s going to take off and die.’

“Take off and die!” There is so much to unpack in this nonsense, but at the same time I don’t want to put in the effort. Like, I’m pretty Internet I think (?) but I just don’t even care enough to rebuff anything in this article. Fine. It’s fine.
